Softball Closes Out Florida Trip With Two Wins

CLERMONT, FLA. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team ended its eight-game trip in Florida with a pair of victories on Tuesday, defeating Lynn, 4-2, and Northern State, 11-1, in five innings.
 
The Tritons, who finished with a 7-1 mark in the Sunshine State, improve to 11-9 overall. UMSL will host Saginaw Valley State on Friday before welcoming McKendree on Sunday in the GLVC opener.
 
Game 1: UMSL 4, Lynn 2

A five-hit, three-run fourth inning helped the Tritons to the win.
 
UMSL took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when senior Jennah Perryman delivered a two-out RBI double to score junior Reagan Osborn, who led off with a single.
 
Lynn tied it up in the fourth and got the go ahead run to third, but sophomore hurler Andee Tiffee ended the threat with back-to-back strikeouts, racking up 11 in the complete game victory.
 
Then in the fourth, sophomore pinch runner Annie Kroeger scampered home on a series of throws in the infield after Osborn singled to left center. Sophomore Morgan Hill followed with an RBI single, while junior Serena Olson's double brought Hill across home plate for the 4-1 advantage.
 
Lynn got one run back in the top of the seventh and left the tying run at first base.
 
UMSL outhit the Fighting Knights, 11-4, led by a 3-for-3 performance at the plate with two doubles by Perryman. Osborn added two hits and scored two runs.
 
Game 2: UMSL 11, Northern State 1 (5 inn.)

The Tritons recorded 14 hits, including three each from Tiffee and junior Madi Sundling, who also added three RBI and scored two runs.
 
UMSL extended its lead to 5-0 in the second with four runs on four hits, including two RBI each from juniors Lizzy Miller and Chelsea Martinez.
 
Five runs came home in a five-hit fifth inning to make it an 11-0 advantage behind an Olson solo home run and two-run singles from Sundling and junior Carly Kingery.
 
Kingery earned the win in three and two-thirds of an inning, in which she struck out seven, walked one and allowed one run on four hits.
