ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team overcame a 12-1 deficit en route to a 16-15 victory at Maryville on Saturday in the start of a four-game GLVC series. The Saints took game two, 4-2.
The two teams will close out the series with another doubleheader tomorrow, with those two games being played at UMSL.

Game 1: UMSL 16, Maryville 15
A pair of six-run innings by the home team in the second and third frames helped Maryville to a 12-1 start, but from there, UMSL outscored the Saints, 15-3.
Senior
Jacob Monti delivered a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to give UMSL a 14-13 lead it would not relinquish, capping a five-run, five-hit frame. Monti finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored.
UMSL out-hit the Saints, 16-12.
Six different players added two hits each, including freshman
Josh Shoemaker who also recorded two RBI and scored two runs, redshirt freshman
Derrick Freeman, who had two RBI and senior
Cooper Vinz, who scored three runs. Both of Freeman and Shoemaker's hits were doubles, while one of junior
Tom DeCero's two hits was a solo home run.
Sophomore
Bobby Shallenberger picked up his first collegiate win in four and two-thirds of an inning. He allowed four runs, including just two earned, on five hits, while striking out three and walking one.
Redshirt sophomore
Jason Stuckmeyer notched his first save, retiring five of the six batters he faced in one and two-thirds inning of work.
Game 2: Maryville 4, UMSL 2
Freeman brought in each of UMSL's two runs with groundouts, including one in the third to make it 2-1 and one in the fifth to make it 3-2.
The Saints out-hit UMSL, 8-5, to hand junior
Matt Graser the loss. Graser equaled a season-best five strikeouts
Vinz and redshirt junior
Brian Seymour each had a hit and drew a walk.
