Softball Drops Two One-Run, Extra Inning Games at Maryville

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team suffered two one-run extra inning losses at Maryville on Sunday in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Records: UMSL (28-18, 15-9 GLVC), Maryville (24-19-1, 11-13 GLVC)

Game 1: Maryville 2, UMSL 1 (8 inn.)
Freshman Carlie Kudary's two-out RBI double in the top of the seventh knotted the game at 1-1 and helped force extra play, but a sac fly by the Saints in the bottom of the eighth gave the home team the win.

Maryville took a 1-0 lead in the fourth with a double, followed by an RBI triple – both with two outs.

UMSL out-hit the Saints, 9-4, but left eight runners on base, including bases loaded in the second and runners at second and third in the eighth.

Sophomore Andee Tiffee was 3-for-4 at the plate, while freshman Sapphire Munoz added two hits.

Junior Carly Kingery was tagged with the loss, despite allowing just four hits and striking out 11.

Game 2: Maryville 3, UMSL 2 (9 inn.)
A two-run single by senior Jennah Perryman in the fifth gave UMSL a 2-1 lead, but a two-out, inside the park, solo home run by the Saints in the bottom of the seventh forced another extra inning contest. Maryville then won the game on a ninth inning wild pitch.

The Tritons loaded the bases in the top of the ninth on two Saints errors and a walk. Maryville finished with four miscues in the game, but UMSL was unable to take advantage.

Junior Serena Olson was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double as UMSL tallied seven hits.

Tiffee suffered the loss, allowing eight hits, while striking out nine and walking one.

Up Next: UMSL closes out the regular season next weekend with doubleheaders at Southern Indiana (Saturday) and Bellarmine (Sunday).
