ROLLA, MO. – Redshirt sophomore
Derrick Freeman delivered the game-winning two-run double in the nightcap of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Saturday as the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team posted a 4-2 eight-inning win at Missouri S&T. The host Miners outlasted the Tritons, 5-4, in 11 innings in the opening contest of the four-game series.
The two teams will conclude the series with another doubleheader tomorrow.

Game 1: Missouri S&T 5, UMSL 4 (11 inn.)
A two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the 11
th gave the Miners the walk-off win.
UMSL took a 4-3 lead in the top of the 11
th on junior
Tom DeCero's two-out RBI double.
The final score was the only lead for Missouri S&T, which pulled even with the Tritons each time they scored.
DeCero and senior
Cooper Vinz had three hits each for UMSL, which totaled 15. DeCero also scored two runs, including the first one of the game in the second inning on an RBI single from freshman
Josh Shoemaker.
Freeman broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth with a two-run double, but the Miners answered with two runs in the seventh to make it 3-3.
Graduate student
Kevin Smith went six innings in the no-decision start. He surrendered two runs on four hits, walked four and struck out three.
Senior
Alex Oltmann was tagged with the loss in four and two-thirds of an inning, scattering six hits and allowing three runs.
Missouri S&T recorded 10 hits and left 12 runners on base, while UMSL stranded 11.
Game 2: UMSL 4, Missouri S&T 2 (8 inn.)
UMSL jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third, taking advantage of a throwing error before a DeCero sac fly, while in the sixth, the Miners knotted the score.
Junior
Matt Graser tossed the complete game winner, allowing just the two runs on seven hits.
UMSL tallied eight hits, including two each from Freeman, Shoemaker and senior
Jake Morsch. Vinz added a single to extend his hit streak to eight games, while Freeman reached base for the 15
th straight game.
