ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team opened the 2018 season on Friday with a pair of 3-0 victories at the Eckerd College Invitational.
The Tritons hit a combined .374 in wins over the College of Charleston and Seton Hill.
UMSL 3, Charleston 0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-15)
Match Notables
- SET 1: Junior Kylie Rudsinski had five kills on seven swings in the first frame, two of which led to UMSL's final two points. UMSL jumped out to a 17-9 lead, but saw Charleston follow with seven unanswered to get back in the set.
- SET 2: A 7-0 run by the Tritons ignited an 18-4 set-ending run. Senior Alex Miner had two kills and a block during that 7-0 stretch.
- SET 3: UMSL hit .310, highlighted by Miner who had five kills in five attempts.
Statistically Speaking
- Senior Maddy Russell and Rudsinski had 10 kills each, while Miner finished with eight.
- Freshman Cara Ferchen dished out 19 assists and recorded eight digs to help the Tritons hit .243.
- Freshman Megan Woll tallied 17 digs, while junior Amanda Vollmer finished with four digs as the Tritons limited the Golden Eagles to .075 hitting.
- UMSL recorded seven service aces, including two each from Ferchen and sophomore Payton Kennelly.

- UMSL hit .542 and didn't record an attack error until the second set.
- SET 2: UMSL ended the frame on an 12-1 run, which included three kills from Russsell.
- SET 3: Five straight by Seton Hill gave them a 12-10 lead, but the Tritons followed with an 8-2 run
- Seton Hill (0-2) was 22-8 last year and made the NCAA Tournament.
Statistically Speaking
- Junior Selena Nolte had 12 kills with no errors in 20 attempts, while adding eight digs.
- Kennelly tallied 21 assists, while Ferchen added 18.
- Woll recorded 14 digs.
- Freshman Charlotte Richards hit .700 (7-0-10).
