Men's Soccer Scores Four Goals in Season-Opening Shutout Win

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team opened its season with a 4-0 win over visiting Davenport on Saturday afternoon. Senior Mark Skrivan had three assists for the Tritons, who avenged a 5-1 loss against the Panthers last year in Michigan.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Oscar Gordillo came off the bench to score the first goal, taking the pass from Skrivan in the 34th minute and putting it into the left corner from his shot just inside the box.
  • The Tritons outshot Davenport, 6-1, in the first half.
  • The Panthers controlled the ball in the early minutes of the second half, taking four shots in the first 10 minutes. Three were stopped by Tritons keeper Jordan Hurt, while one went wide.
  • Junior Magnus Anderson gave UMSL an insurance goal in the 61st minute. Anderson beat his defender and shot from the right wing. Skrivan started the play with a pass up to senior Kenan Selimovic, who then crossed it over to Anderson.
  • Selimovic added a goal of his own in the 71st minute after Skrivan stole the ball.
  • The final tally came in the 76th minute when freshman Garrett Bass found senior Collin Wynn inside the box.
 
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
  • UMSL finished with 11 shots, placing six on goal, while Davenport, who was coming off a 3-3 double overtime draw at No. 19 Maryville on Thursday, took eight shots, placing five on target.
  • Hurt finished with five saves.
  • Selimovic took three shots, landing two on goal.
