ST. LOUIS, MO., January 26, 2019 – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team overcame a slow start en route to picking up a 61-59 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over crosstown foe Maryville on Saturday, snapping the Saints' five-game win streak.
The Tritons trailed by 16 after the first quarter, but chipped away and outscored their guests, 41-31, in the second half. UMSL was led by redshirt junior
Laura Szorenyi, who scored a season-high 18 points.

How it Happened
Maryville raced out to a 20-4 lead after the first quarter in which the Tritons made just 1-of-16 field goals and 2-of-6 free throws.
UMSL outscored the Saints, 16-8, in the second quarter to pull within 28-20 at the half. The Tritons limited the Saints to 29 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes, but connected at just an 18.2 percent clip on their end.
UMSL then pulled within 47-41 heading into the final 10 minutes and used an 11-2 start to the final frame to take its first lead, 52-49, with 6:12 to go on a three-point play by Szorenyi. Maryville knotted it up four times, but would not take the lead.

- Sophomore Alex LaPorta added nine points, 13 rebounds and three steals, while playing all 40 minutes.
- Freshman Faye Meissner added nine points and six rebounds, while junior Grace Morrow tallied eight points and eight rebounds.
- Senior Arielle Jackson finished with eight points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, while also playing all 40 minutes.
- UMSL finished the game shooting 28.8 percent and held a 52-39 rebounding advantage, including a 20-10 edge on the offensive end.
- Maryville shot 30.5 percent.
