HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL clung to a 40-39 halftime lead after an opening half that saw the Tritons shoot 45 percent with Grubbs scoring 14 of his points. Tiffin jumped out to a 10-4 lead, but the Tritons later used a 13-2 run to pull ahead 22-15 on a Grubbs layup with 12:07 to play.
Towery then scored 11 of his points in the second half. UMSL put the lead into double digits at 68-58 with 7:09 on the clock on a jumper in the paint by redshirt sophomore
Kellen King. The Dragons trimmed the deficit to four at 73-67 with 2:17 remaining, but would not score again.
The Tritons finished the game shooting 46.8 percent from the field and held a 48-36 rebounding advantage, including a 16-10 edge on the offensive end. UMSL outscored the Dragons, 18-8, in second chance points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Redshirt sophomore Steve Webb added 11 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.
- Senior Jalen Wilkins-McCoy also chipped in 11 points and pulled down six boards while blocking two shots.
- Junior Yaakema Rose Jr. added nine rebounds, eight points, four assists and two steals, while junior Shane Wissink dished out seven assists.
