Women's Basketball Falls to Lindenwood in OT in GLVC Opener

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team fell short in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Tuesday night as visiting Lindenwood grabbed a 78-70 overtime victory.
 
The Lions outscored the Tritons, 14-6, in the extra frame.
 
Despite the loss, UMSL recorded a season-high 15 steals, but saw Lindenwood own a 54-34 rebounding advantage, including a 21-11 edge on the offensive end.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL clung to a 31-30 halftime lead, while Lindenwood led 14-13 after the first quarter. The Tritons took advantage of 10 Lions turnovers in the first half, outscoring their guests, 12-2, in points off turnovers.
 
Lindenwood scored the first five points off the third quarter and later took a 44-39 lead before UMSL followed with eight unanswered to go back on top at 47-44 with 1:43 to play before holding a 47-46 lead after three quarters.
 
The Lions scored three straight buckets to open the fourth quarter and took a 52-47 lead before a 13-4 UMSL gave the Tritons a 64-62 lead. Lindenwood tied it with 27 seconds to go, while junior Danielle Berry just missed the lay in for the game-winner.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Berry equaled a season-high 20 points, while adding six rebounds, five assists and four steals.
  • Junior Alex LaPorta added 12 points and seven boards.
  • Redshirt senior Laura Szorenyi finished with 13 points.
  • UMSL shot 39.4 percent, while Lindenwood connected at a 42.6 percent clip, including 59.3 percent combined in the third and fourth quarters.
  • Lindenwood's Kallie Bildner, the GLVC leading scorer at 23.3 points per game, finished with 20 after being held to four in the first half.

UMSL is idle until December 16 when they travel to Culver Stockton.
