JOPLIN, MO., February 13, 2019 – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team opened its season with a 6-2 loss to Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday night during the MIAA-GLVC Challenge, hosted by Missouri Southern.
Records: UMSL (0-1), Northwest Missouri State (3-5)
The Bearcats used a six-run third inning to help garner the win, recording five hits and taking advantage of four walks and an error in that frame.
Freshman
Mitchel Becher gave UMSL a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with a solo home run in his first collegiate at bat, while redshirt senior
Brian Seymour got the Tritons within 6-2 with a bases load sac fly in the top of the seventh.

- UMSL was out-hit 7-5, struck out 12 times and was charged with four errors in its first outing.
- Betcher reached base in all three plate appearances, drawing two walks after his home run.
- Junior Bobby Shallenberger tossed three and one-thirds of an inning in relief, scattering just two hits, while walking two.
