ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth, including a walk-off RBI single from junior
Jackson Dvorak to rally past Rockhurst, 5-4, on Friday in the start of a three-game GLVC series.
The Tritons saw Rockhurst take a 4-3 lead in the eighth with a two-run double that came after the Hawks loaded the bases on a hit-by-pitch and back-to-back walks.
Freshman pinch hitter
Jacob Stoker led off the ninth with a single, while fellow freshman
Brandon Olion followed with another single. Hilpert followed with his single before redshirt senior
Brian Seymour was intentionally walked to load the bases for Dvorak.
Records: UMSL (6-23, 5-13 GLVC), Rockhurst (7-22, 4-14 GLVC)
UMSL erased a 2-0 deficit in the fifth with three runs. Redshirt junior
Derrick Freeman delivered a two-run single before going from first to home on stolen base followed by two throwing errors. He had two stolen bases in the game.
Senior
Jon Mahanay had a solid outing on the hill in the no-decision as he worked into the eighth inning. He finished with four runs on eight hits, three walks and four strikeouts.
Junior
Avery Braun earned the win in relief, striking out the three batters he faced.
UMSL finished with 11 hits to Rockhurst's nine. Senior
Tom DeCero was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Seymour and Hilpert finished with two hits each.
The two teams will close out the series tomorrow with a doubleheader set for a Noon first pitch.
