Women's Basketball Gets Back in Win Column Over UIndy

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team rode a pair of season-highs on Saturday en route to an 81-71 victory over Indianapolis in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
 
Freshman Breanna Diestelkamp poured in a game and season-high 22 points, while junior Alex LaPorta added a season-high 19 points. LaPorta, who collected her fourth double-double of the season with 12 rebounds, also dished out eight assists to flirt with the triple-double. Diestelkamp added eight rebounds.
 
The Tritons, playing their lone home contest in a seven-game span, shot 47.5 percent from the field – their GLVC season-high – and owned a 38-23 rebounding advantage, including a 19-8 edge on the offensive end.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL took a 40-36 lead into halftime after outscoring their guests, 24-13, in the second quarter. The Tritons shot 56.3 percent from the field in the second frame, which included going 3-of-4 from three-point range, to erase a 23-16 first quarter deficit.
 
UMSL closed the third quarter on a 10-2 run, taking a 57-51 lead into the final 10 minutes.
 
A three-pointer from junior Danielle Berry with 6:45 to play put the Tritons advantage into double figures at 68-57. The Greyhounds would get within seven, but UMSL made 7-of-8 free throws in the final 1:27 to help seal the victory.

  • Berry finished with 14 points and six rebounds.
  • The Tritons had just 10 turnovers, equaling their second fewest of the season.
  • UIndy shot 53.7 percent.
