Women's Basketball Edged by Lindenwood in OT for Second Time

ST. LOUIS, MO. – For the second time this season, the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team suffered an overtime loss to Lindenwood in Great Lakes Valley Conference action, falling 92-86 Monday night.
 
The Lions, which also defeated UMSL 78-70 in overtime in the GLVC opener on December 3, erased a six-point deficit with 48 seconds to go in regulation before knocking in a three-pointer at the buzzer to force the extra play. Lindenwood made 14-of-18 free throws in overtime to help secure the win.
 
Junior Danielle Berry scored 14 of her season-high 20 points in the second half and was one of four players in double figures for the Tritons, who were playing in the first of three road games this week. Berry was 4-of-8 from the field and 10-of-10 at the free-throw line.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL took a 35-30 lead into halftime after outscoring Lindenwood, 23-9, in the second quarter. The Tritons netted their first six field goals in that frame, finishing 10-of-13.
 
Lindenwood held a 21-12 advantage after the first quarter after scoring 11 unanswered late in that frame.
 
Sophomore Faye Meissner scored 11 points in the opening half.
 
The Tritons missed their first five shots of third quarter, but a three from Berry with nine seconds left helped Tritons knot it at 48-48 heading into final 10 minutes.
 
10 unanswered points by the Tritons gave UMSL a 64-59 lead with 1:47 to play before two free throws each from Berry and Meissner made it 68-62 with 48 seconds remaining. Lindenwood followed with a 7-2 spurt to pull within 70-69 30 seconds later as the Tritons turned it over twice. Lindenwood missed two free throws with 8.4 seconds remaining and after two more free throws from Berry, the Lions hit the tying three at the buzzer.

  • Meissner finished with a career-high 17 points, while redshirt senior Laura Szorenyi (16) and junior Alex LaPorta (12) also reached double figures.
  • The Tritons shot 48.3 percent and held a 31-30 rebounding advantage, while the Lions shot 50.9 percent.
  • Szorenyi and Meissner had three steals each, while LaPorta and Berry dished out three assists each.
  • LaPorta and sophomore Kiara Stewart each grabbed six rebounds.
  • Kallie Bildner and Devin Fuhring scored 29 points each for Lindenwood.
