Visiting Maryville Rallies Past Women's Basketball

ST. LOUIS, MO. –The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball saw visiting Maryville rally from an 18-point deficit en route to stealing a 62-53 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL held a 15-10 lead after the first quarter before outscoring the Saints, 20-9, in the second quarter behind 56.3 percent shooting to build a 35-19 halftime lead.
 
Maryville pulled within 46-44 heading into the final 10 minutes after using a 17-2 run over the final 5:42 of the third quarter. The Saints then took their first lead of the game – and a lead they would not relinquish - since early in the first quarter at 52-49 with just under seven minutes to play.
 
UMSL shot just 13.3 percent in the fourth quarter, finishing the game at 35.1 percent, while Maryville shot 37.5, including 71.4 percent in the third period. The Tritons held a 38-36 rebounding advantage.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Junior Danielle Berry scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while redshirt senior Laura Szorenyi and freshman Breanna Diestelkamp added nine points each.
  • Diestelkamp pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds, while Szorenyi recorded three assists and two steals.
