No. 20 Men's Basketball Gets Back in Win Column at McKendree

LEBANON, ILL. – The No. 20 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team hung on for a 68-65 win at McKendree on Thursday night to snap a two-game losing streak.
 
The win was the 21st of the season for the Tritons, one shy of the program record 22.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL closed the first half on an 11-3 run to take a 29-21 lead into halftime.
 
The Tritons took their largest lead of the game at 48-35 midway through the second half, but an 11-2 run by McKendree later cut trimmed the lead to 61-59 with just under two minutes remaining. The Bearcats got within one twice, but junior Shane Wissink converted all four free throw attempts in the final 24 seconds to help preserve the win.
 
UMSL shot 49 percent and owned a 38-27 rebounding advantage, while the Bearcats shot 35.7 percent and finished 18-of-21 at the free-throw line.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Senior Jalen Wilkins-McCoy scored 18 points and had six rebounds.
  • Junior Yaakema Rose Jr. added 13 points, a career-high 10 rebounds and four assists.
  • Junior Jose Grubbs followed with 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
  • UMSL turned the ball over 14 times leading to a 17-8 scoring advantage in points off turnovers.
