JOPLIN, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team opened its 2020 season on Friday with a 6-2 victory over Missouri Western at the MIAA/GLVC Crossover, hosted by Missouri Southern.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior
Bobby Shallenberger earned the win, going seven innings and striking out six. He scattered five hits and allowed just one run.
Offensively, the Tritons broke the game open with a four-hit, five-run third inning to go ahead 6-0. Three of those runs came with two outs, including back-to-back RBI singles from sophomore
Mitchel Becher and senior
Andrew Hayden.
UMSL also scored its first run with two outs in the first inning when senior
Derrick Freeman delivered an RBI single.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- UMSL recorded eight hits, including two from sophomore Brandon Olion, who also had an RBI and scored two runs.
- Five different Triton players drove in a run.
- Missouri Western finished with eight hits.
- Junior Austin Forney tossed two innings in relief, striking out five, while allowing one run on three hits.
