Women's Basketball Falls in Road Finale at Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team shot just 29 percent on Saturday afternoon in a 64-54 loss at Southern Indiana as the Tritons played their final regular season road game of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern Indiana took a 34-25 lead into halftime after the Tritons shot just 25 percent in the opening half, including 15.8 percent in the opening quarter. The Screaming Eagles led by as many as 15 in the second quarter before UMSL used a 13-3 run, capped with nine straight to get within 27-22 on a layup by senior Grace Morrow.
 
UMSL also pulled within five late in the third quarter at 43-38 before a shot at a buzzer gave the hosts a 45-38 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
 
A 9-3 start to the fourth quarter brought UMSL within 48-47 with 6:28 remaining, but USI followed with a 9-3 spurt of its own to extend the advantage to 57-50.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • All eight Triton players that saw action in the game, scored, led by sophomore McKenzie Lathrom, who scored 12, while fellow sophomore Faye Meissner followed with 10 points.
  • Junior Alex LaPorta added nine points.
  • Southern Indiana shot 39.6 percent and held a 44-41 rebounding advantage, although UMSL owned the edge on the offensive end, 20-13.
  • LaPorta and sophomore Kiara Stewart had eight rebounds each.
  • Morrow equaled her career-high with four blocks.
  • Junior Danielle Berry and redshirt senior Laura Szorenyi had three assists and three steals each.
 
UP NEXT
UMSL closes out the regular season with four straight home games, beginning Thursday by welcoming William Jewell at 5:30 p.m.
