ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team rallied from a 14-point second half deficit on Thursday night en route to an 85-83 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over William Jewell.
 
Junior Alex LaPorta netted a pair of free throws with .03 seconds on the clock after drawing a foul on an inbounds play with .07 ticks.
 
LaPorta finished the game with 32 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
 
The win was the fifth straight at home for the Tritons, who returned to the Mark Twain Building following a four-game road swing.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL overcame a season-high 64.8 percent shooting by William Jewell. The Tritons led 21-14 after the first quarter, but saw the Cardinals combine to shoot 81.5 percent over the second and third quarters.
 
William Jewell took a 46-36 lead into halftime and owns a 68-58 advantage after three quarters.
 
After a pair of Cardinals free throws gave the guests a 79-68 lead with 4:26 to go, the Tritons reeled off 10 unanswered to get within 79-78 on a pair of free throws from sophomore Faye Meissner with 1:15 to play. Senior Laura Szorenyi would later follow with a three-point play to knot the score at 81-81 before William Jewell scored the go ahead bucket with 10 seconds to play. LaPorta then tied it up again at 83-83 two seconds later.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Sophomore Kiara Stewart scored a career-high 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
• Meissner finished with 12 points.
• Junior Danielle Berry recorded six steals and four assists.
• UMSL shot a season-high 56.7 percent and held a 26-21 rebounding advantage, including an 11-6 edge on the offensive end.
