ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team combined for 21 hits on Sunday as they earned wins for Pitt State (6-3) and Arkansas Monticello (8-4) to close out the Alvy Early Memorial Classic.
GAME 1: UMSL 6, Pitt State 3
UMSL rallied for the win with five runs on eight hits in the seventh inning to erase a 3-1 deficit. Three of those runs came with two outs, including an RBI double from senior
Andee Tiffee and RBI singles from sophomore
Jessica Mrzlak and freshman
McKenzie Lamos.
Tiffee also picked up the win in the circle, tossing three and two-thirds perfect innings in relief, while striking out seven.
UMSL out-hit Pitt State, 9-5, with sophomore
Corinne Daley tallying two hits, including a home run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead.
GAME 2: UMSL 8, Arkansas-Monticello 4
The Tritons scored six runs with two outs in the third inning to erase a 2-0 deficit en route to the win.
UMSL recorded 12 hits, including three hits each from redshirt senior
Morgan Hill and freshman
Jenna Towle. Hill added two RBIs, both coming on a double in the sixth inning that extended the Tritons advantage to 8-3. Mrzlak also delivered a two-run double with hers coming in that third inning.
Tiffee (2-3) collected her second win of the day in relief, allowing two runs on six hits in four innings, while striking out seven and walking one.
