TOPEKA, KAN. – After being held to one hit in a 3-0 loss to Fort Hays State, the University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team rallied back for 12 hits in an 11-1 five-inning win over Emporia State on Friday at the Washburn Invitational.
GAME 1: Fort Hays State 3, UMSL 0
The Tritons were limited to just one hit – a one-out single in the sixth from senior
Paige Schmittling.
Fort Hays State (11-7) only got three hits, but drew nine walks, including four in the fourth which led to its first two runs. Junior
Sapphire Munoz tied a career-high with eight strikeouts in the no decision start, going three and two-thirds of an inning.
GAME 2: UMSL 11, Emporia State 1 (5 inn.)
The Tritons had four extra base hits in the contest, including two-run homers from sophomore
Corinne Daley and freshman
McKenzie Lamos, while senior
Andee Tiffee delivered a three-run double that ended the game early.
Tiffee also picked up the win in circle, allowing just one hit in five innings, which was a lead-off home run. She was one of three players to finish with two hits with Daley and Lamos also adding two hits and two RBI.
