TOPEKA, KAN. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team posted a 4-1 victory over Pitt State on Saturday morning on day two of the Washburn Invitational, but lost an 8-0 decision to the host Ichabods later in the day.
GAME 1: UMSL 4, Pitt State 1
Senior
Andee Tiffee tossed the complete game three-hitter, striking out 12 to bring her career total to 503, becoming the fourth pitcher in program history to amass more than 500 career strikeouts. All three hits she allowed came in the sixth and seventh innings with the run coming on a wild pitch with two outs in the seventh.
Tiffee also helped herself at the plate, driving in the game's first run, while freshman
Annie Scaramuzzi made it 2-0 in the second with an RBI single.
Sophomore
Corinne Daley delivered a two-run homer in the third with her fourth long ball of the season.
Scaramuzzi accounted for two of UMSL's six hits.
GAME 2: Washburn 8, UMSL 0 (6 inn.)
UMSL was limited to five singles in the contest, while Washburn tallied 10 hits.
However, the Ichabods scored their first three runs in the first inning without getting a hit, taking advantage of an error and scoring on a ground out, a wild pitch and a passed ball.
The Tritons recorded two of their hits in the third inning and loaded the bases, but couldn't get a run across.
Washburn added three runs in a four-hit third and plated its eighth run in the sixth.
