ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team lost both of its games to open the 2020 season on Saturday at the McGhee/Hawkins Invitational. The Tritons fell 9-1 to No. 21 ranked Tarleton State and 6-5 to Christian Brothers.
GAME 1: No. 21 Tarleton State 9, UMSL 1 (6 inn.)
UMSL scored first, but the Texans followed with nine unanswered runs, including six in the third on five hits.
Sophomore
Corinne Daley got the Tritons on the board in the first inning with a two-out RBI single. UMSL would get just two other hits – a leadoff single by freshman
Annie Scaramuzzi in the second and a leadoff single from senior
Andee Tiffee in the six.
Tiffee suffered the loss in the circle, allowing seven runs on six hits in two and two-thirds of an inning.
GAME 2: Christian Brothers 6, UMSL 5
The Tritons scored the game's final four runs, but couldn't complete the comeback.
The Lady Bucs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and made it 4-0 in the third before the Tritons got on the board in the fourth on a sac fly from freshman
Morgan Barnoski.
A Tiffee RBI single and an RBI double from Daley in the fifth cut the deficit to 6-4, before the Tritons scored on a ground out double play in the sixth for their final run.
Tiffee and Scaramuzzi finished with two hits each. UMSL tallied eight as a team to Christian Brothers' nine.
Freshman
Jenna Towle took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in three and one-thirds of an inning.
