Men's Basketball Grinds Out Win Over William Jewell

ST. LOUIS – Senior Shane Wissink scored a career-high 28 points on Thursday night to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team to an 88-83 win over visiting William Jewell.
 
Wissink, who also dished out eight assists, made 10-of-17 field goals, including 5-of-9 three-pointers. He scored 11 of UMSL's final 18 points, including a long ball with just under four minutes to play that gave UMSL a 73-72 lead it would not relinquish.
 
The Tritons led by 10 in the first half and then found themselves down 10 in the second half before grinding out the win, which was their eighth straight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL held a 41-37 lead at the half after owning its largest lead of the game at 36-26 with 4:18 to play. The Tritons were aided by their bench in the opening 20 minutes, getting 13 points, including eight from redshirt sophomore Myles Cephas.
 
William Jewell used a 12-3 run in the second half to go on top 69-59 with 7:43 to play, but UMSL answered with a 16-3 run.
 
Redshirt sophomore Trever Moore sealed the game with two free throws with nine seconds to go.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Junior Marty Jackson added 16 points, while redshirt junior Marquis Collins followed with 12 points.
  • Cephas chipped in 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including 3-of-3 from three-point range.
  • Redshirt junior Steve Webb recorded seven assists as UMSL tallied a season-best 21 as a team, while committing a season-low seven turnovers.
  • The Tritons shot 52.5 percent, while William Jewell connected on a season-high 55.2 percent and held a 30-27 rebounding advantage. Both teams made 11 three-pointers.
