LIBERTY, MO. – Senior
Alex LaPorta recorded 15 points, including the 1,000
th of her career, as the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team rolled past host William Jewell, 86-58, Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
LaPorta becomes the 16
th player in program history to accomplish the feat and now has 1,005 career points. She also finished with eight rebounds and six assists.
UMSL, playing for the first time following a 13-day layoff for the holidays, picked up its third straight win behind a season-high 55.7 shooting percentage. The Tritons had 10 different players score, including seven that put up eight or more points.
The 28-point GLVC road victory is the largest under head coach
Katie Vaughn in her nine seasons at UMSL and is the program's largest GLVC road win since an 81-47 victory at Saint Joseph's on Dec. 1, 2007.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL shot 52.8 percent in the first half, owning leads of 27-12 after the first quarter and 47-25 at the half.
The Tritons connected at a 75 percent (9-of-12) in the third quarter and took a 67-44 lead into the final 10 minutes.
UMSL limited the Cardinals to 36 percent shooting and held a 41-22 rebounding advantage, including a 12-6 edge on the offensive end. The Tritons outscored William Jewell, 18-3, in second chance points and took advantage of 17 Cardinal turnovers, with a 19-10 advantage in points off turnovers.

UMSL was scheduled to play at Rockhurst on Tuesday, but due to COVID-19 protocols within the Hawks' program, the Tritons will now travel to Lewis on Tuesday at 3 p.m. That game is being moved up from Jan. 14 scheduled date.
