Tritons complete sweep of SBU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The UMSL Tritons (5-5-1, 4-4-1) made sure to complete the sweep of SBU Sunday afternoon at Don Dallas Field.

Approximately 30 minutes before the whistle blew for the men's game, the women just defeated the Bearcats, 4-0.

The men made sure they followed suit, as they also defeated the Bearcats by the same score, 4-0.

And just like the women, the men wasted little time in establishing tempo and ball possession, exposing the Bearcats' defense, hitting on all strides as the pushed the ball through the middle, the wings, and seams.

A mere 11:40 into the match, Arman Kovac -- who has been on a tear of late -- found the net for his sixth goal of the season. Assist went to Tommy Naumann and Gus Mantia.

Twenty-one minutes later, Nick Schreiber took the corner kick from Drew Schenk feet from the right post, and delivered a beautiful header for the second goal.

"I thought we converted well on our chances today," said Dan King, who is in his 21st season as the Tritons head coach. "Our bench played very well today. We can build off a home win and a clean sheet."

According to King, the game plan was simple: keep the pressure on for the full 90 minutes.

"We wanted to put them on the back foot from the start. Sit in on our block and attack when they pass it into our lanes."

Blaine KIng found Schenk for the third goal at the 36:22 mark of the opening half. Schenk now has two goals on the season.

With the trifecta in hand, the Tritons still craved more.

Enter Michael Andrews, who took the pass from Leo Sowa for his first score of the season 19 minutes into the second half.

The Tritons capped off the sweep of SBU with 11 shots.

While it may not illuminate the box score, one stat that deserves recognition  was the play of freshman goalkeeper, Austin Reis.

The St. Louis native played a little more than 73 minutes and tallied five saves, four of which came in the first 90 minutes of play.
