In a time schedule swap with the Tritons women's soccer program, the men took to the pitch first Friday afternoon for a matinee soccer tilt.
Down 1-0 on the road in the first 1:16 to the Maryville Saints, the Tritons buckled down and reached deep to keep the Saints at bay for the rest of regulation: roughly 88 minutes.
But just 1:02 into overtime, the Saints delivered the decider as Mason Crew's shot just squeaked inside the right post to give the host Saints the 2-1 GLVC win.
Prior to that, Mirza Hasecic gave the Saints the early 1-0 lead just 1:16 into the contest.
In the second half,
Garrett Bass delivered the penalty-kick equalizer with 15 minutes remaining in regulation.
If there is a silver lining, it's the fact the Tritons regrouped and kept the Saints off the scoreboard for 88 minutes: something in which they can build upon as the calendar creeps its way toward mid-October.
The Tritons will look to make the necessary adjustments, as they travel west to Rolla to battle Missouri S&T for a 2:30 p.m. tilt Sunday afternoon.
UMSL now sits 5-6-1 overall and 4-5-1 in GLVC play.
The win makes it five-in-a-row for the Saints, who improve to 9-2-1 overall and 7-2-0 in the GLVC.
