The UMSL Tritons swimming teams were itching to showcase the 2021 talent in their own pool for weeks.
That time is now, and the Tritons certainly did not disappoint with a plethora of first-place, top-five, and top-10 finishes Friday and Saturday as they hosted Maryville and William Jewell.
Below is a look at some of the top performers from Saturday.
In the women's 400 medley relay: the team of
Franziska Hauptmann,
Zara Konstapel,
Kristen Stalder, and
Stephanie Schoemans placed first (4:06.39).
In the men's 400 medley relay: the team of Guillem Roca,
Austin Stevenson,
Jon Osa, and
Aiden Clark placed first (3:30.23).
Coming in one spot behind was the team of
Conley Savage,
Ian Heye,
Ryan Clark, and
David Reynolds (3:33.45).
In the women's 1000 freestye, it was
Rebecca Bechtel who took top honors (11:03.36).
Coming in second was Lily Wagemann (11:54.64).
Head coach
Tony Hernandez knew the weekend would live up to the billing given the strong preparation.
"I saw them elevate their level of preparation and competition. They were excited to put on a show match that of a championship meet," he said. "That's the level of competition we need to be ready to swim great in a month at our midseason meet."
In the men's 1000 freestyle:
Sergio Santisteban placed first (9:29.52).
Mason Stimson placed third (10:23.40).
Being in their own pool, sleeping in their own beds, surely made the difference.
Said Hernandez: "Having their family and friends there to support them meant a lot. You could see and feel it in their excitement all week. They were excited to put on a show "
In the women's 200 freestyle:
Maria Serra placed third (2:03.90) and
Cheyanne Godleski was fourth (2:04.43).
In the men's 200 freestyle:
Aiden Clark took runner-up honors (1:47.53).
William Nickel was fourth (1:49.53) and
Ryan Conner was fifth (1:51.10).
In the women's 50 freestyle, the Tritons owned the event.
Ava Boehning was first (25.24) and
Franziska Hauptmann was second (25.39).
Kate Nelson was fourth (25.58) and
Serena Brizard was fifth (25.83).
Julia Gorska was eighth (26.69) and
Bella Kudanovych was ninth (26.70).
In the men's 50 freestyle,
David Reynolds was first (21.98) and
Kyler Lamb was fifth (22.76).
Ethan Boehle was seventh (23.05) and
Spencer Hyatt was ninth (23.43).
In the women's 100 butterfly, Stalder was third (1:01.49) and Bechtel was fourth (1:02.27).
Wang was fifth (1:02.67) and Hei was eighth (1:05.33).
In the men's 100 butterfly: Savage was first (50.95) and Boehle was fourth (53.87).
Nickel was sixth (54.00) and Hyatt was 10th (54.59).
Depth surely will bring about more impressive results as the season continues.
"It allows our athletes to get in different events and try new things. The depth allows for another level of competition. They are constantly battling in training," added Hernandez.
