ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- As the UMSL Tritons men's soccer team prepared for their match against the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles Friday at Lou Fusz Soccer Club, the clouds opened up and the rain began to beat down, drop after drop.
From north to south, east to west, the rain assaulted the turf, the player, the fans ... anyone in the vicinity.
But for the Tritons, the unfavorable conditions seemed to ignite a spark, as the giddiness on and around the bench was one of a palpable nature.
For the Tritons, it was equal opportunity, as the ball found its way to just about everyone in the 4-0 shutout.
First,
Arman Kovac took the assist from
Mylz Barrington 30 minutes into the contest and converted his shot on goal.
Then, fewer than seven minutes later,
Nick Schreiber -- in pure Schreiber fashion -- positioned himself perfectly on the
Jack Meuse corner and capped off the play with his patented head shot for the Tritons' second goal of the night.
Not wanting to be omitted from the fun,
Leo Sowa took the loose ball and scored with seven minutes remaining in the opening half.
With the first-half trifecta in hand,
Garrett Bass took the Meuse feed and scored when his shot made its way over the keeper's grasp, a high-middle shot to close out the scoring.
Senior Day is Sunday, and the Tritons will host McKendree to close out the 2021 fall campaign.
