Drury extends undefeated GLVC record after defeating UMSL

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Drury Panthers (9-1, 7-0) knew it very well could be a trap game.

The UMSL Tritons (5-5-1, 3-4-1) knew what lied ahead: one heck of an assignment.

The Tritons took to Don Dallas Field looking to shock the GLVC as well as the Panthers.

And for the first half, there the Tritons were, step-by-step, going toe-to-toe with the conference's cream-of-the-crop.

But in the second half, like a lion stalking its prey, the Panthers responded with four goals in 28 minutes to seal the 4-0 shutout win on the road -- pushing their conference record to 7-0.

First, Andrea Carmago took the Keeley Combs feed and found the net at the 58:40 mark.

One minute and nine seconds later, Chloe Cash delivered the assist as Elsa Gonzalez found pay dirt for her fifth goal of the campaign.

Approximately 20 minutes later, Combs got in on the action, netting her first goal of the season.

With three minutes remaining and a new goalkeeper in the box for the Tritons, Abby Street slid one by.

Tritons' Paige Schwartz (two saves) was pulled for Brynne Qualley with 6:10 remaining in the contest.

Luckily, the Tritons don't have to wait long for their next contest, as SBU comes to town for a 12 p.m. tilt Sunday.

The forecast is calling for sunny conditions and nearly 90 degrees, so expect plenty of substitutions.

The Panthers finished with 13 shots to the Tritons' 3 -- a credit to the Drury stifling defense.

Both teams finished with two saves each.

While the outcome is not what head coach Maddi Moon and her Tritons wanted, matching the Panthers for 40 minutes of play is something on which to build.
