ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- So far, it has been a pretty nice Thanksgiving for head coach
Bob Sundvold and his UMSL Tritons.
The Tritions went 2-0 at the 2021 Maryville Thanksgiving Classic, with the most recent win coming at the hands of East-West University, 85-41, Wednesday evening.
One night previous, the Tritons defeated Lincoln University, 80-72.
The Tritons wasted little time against East-West, storming out of the gate, mixing their arsenal from long range while sprinkling in dribble penetration -- giving balance to the equation.
UMSL jumped out to a 24-9 lead midway through the first half, closing out the opening 20 minutes of play, up 28-16.
In the second half,
Jose Grubbs took the lead early on, getting out in transition for three quick scores and hitting two from the charity stripe for the and-ones.
From there, it was smooth sailing, as Grubbs led all scorers with his 17-point performance.
UMSL had five players net double-digit scoring.
Trever Moore finished with 10 points and four assists.
Kellen King put forth his best performance of the young season, tallying 10 points and four assists.
The Tritons are back in action Dec. 2 at Truman State.
