ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team suffered a 73-70 loss to Maryville on Saturday in the Tritons' home finale.
The loss overshadowed Senior Day for
Alexa Chairs and
Kyra Hungerford, who were honored before the game.
Despite the setback, Chairs scored a career-high eight points, while Hungerford knocked down a pair of key three-pointers in the final 90 seconds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL clung to a 39-37 halftime advantage after going on a 6-1 run over the final 1:15 of the opening half.
Maryville opened the third quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 50-45 lead, but the Tritons finished with a 12-4 run to own a 57-54 lead going into the final 10 minutes.
After shooting 71.4 percent in the second quarter and 50 percent in the third, the Tritons made just 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) in the fourth quarter. The Saints scored the first 10 points of that frame and later led 69-62 with 1:53 to play. Hungerford then netted two three-pointers in a span of 41 seconds to get UMSL within 69-68, while a bucket by junior
Faye Meissner in the paint made it 71-70 with 19 seconds to go. However, the Tritons would get no closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Senior Alex LaPorta led UMSL with 17 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals.
- Junior Kiara Stewart added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Meissner finished with 10 points.
- UMSL shot 46.8 percent and held a 35-26 rebounding advantage, including a 9-3 edge on the offensive end.
- Maryville shot 51.9 percent, including 63.3 percent in the second half.
