Softball Falls Twice in Home Opener to No. 15 Winona State

ST. LOUIS – Sophomore Annie Scaramuzzi went 6-for-6 at the plate against No. 15 ranked Winona State on Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team lost both games of a doubleheader in its home opener. The Warriors won by scores of 3-1 and 6-2.
 
The Tritons were playing at home for the first time in 670 after having the season canceled last year prior to their home opener.

Game 1: Winona State 3, UMSL 1
Scaramuzzi was 4-for-4 at the plate with a solo home run in the seventh in the opening game.
 
The Tritons recorded nine hits, but left nine runners on base, including the bases loaded in the third inning. Sophomore Morgan Barnoski added two hits.
 
Winona State scored all three of its runs in the third inning and finished the game with eight hits.
 
Sophomore Jenna Towle tied a career-high with eight strikeouts in the complete game effort, while issuing just one walk.
 
Game 2: Winona State 6, UMSL 2
Winona State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and plated two more runs.
 
UMSL got on the board in the sixth inning with a two-run homer from sophomore McKenzie Lamos.
 
Scaramuzzi added two more hits in the nightcap, including a double. The Tritons had four hits, while the Warriors tallied six.

UMSL begins GLVC play this weekend, welcoming Lewis on Friday and Illinois Springfield on Sunday.
