Bseball Drops Pair at William Jewell to Open GLVC Play

KANSAS CITY – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team lost its first two games to open GLVC play on Friday, falling to host William Jewell, 9-5 and 6-1.
 
The two teams will close out the series with another doubleheader tomorrow with first pitch at Noon.

GAME 1: William Jewell 9, UMSL 5
The Tritons offense was highlighted by a pair of home runs, including a solo shot from sophomore Jacob Stoker in the fourth that trimmed the Cardinals lead to 2-1.
 
Freshman Mitchell Spindler delivered his first collegiate long ball in the sixth with a three-run shot that put the Tritons in front, 5-2.
 
However, William Jewell plated two in the sixth and took the lead in the seventh with a three-run homer of its own before taking on two insurance runs in the eighth.
 
Redshirt junior Matt DiMemmo tallied two of UMSL's six hits.
 
The Cardinals recorded 10 hits offensively, while their pitching staff recorded 13 strikeouts.
 
GAME 2: William Jewell 6, UMSL 1
UMSL was limited to four hits, including two by junior Carson Holin and an RBI double from junior Clayton Stephens in the second that gave the Tritons a 1-0 lead.
 
Defensively, the Tritons were tagged with four errors.
 
William Jewell finished with nine hits.
