ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team opened a four-game series with Lewis on Friday with an 8-2 loss.
The Tritons were plagued by three errors, which led to seven unearned runs by the Flyers.
Lewis and UMSL will meet for a doubleheader tomorrow at Noon.
Records: UMSL (3-12, 1-7 GLVC), Lewis (6-7, 4-5 GLVC)
The Flyers scored five of their runs in the third inning for a quick 5-0 lead. They tallied five of their 10 hits in that frame, including a two-out, two-run homer that followed a Triton error.
UMSL got on the board in the fifth inning courtesy of a junior
Carson Holin RBI double and also scored in the ninth inning on an RBI groundout from sophomore
Brandon Olion.
Sophomore
Nick Torres was tagged with the loss despite allowing just one earned run in seven innings. He scattered 10 hits, while walking three and striking out four.
Freshman
Grant Brunstetter tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
Offensively, UMSL recorded seven hits, including doubles from Holin, junior
Bryce Burton and freshman
Jared Bryant.
