Three Second Half Goals Lift Men's Soccer Over Newman

WICHITA, KAN. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team trailed Newman University by two goals at halftime on Friday, before scoring three goals in the second half to come from behind for the road win. UMSL upped the offensive effort in the second half, taking 16 shots compared to just three shots in the first half.

Newman (0-4) jumped out to an early lead in the first half when Matthew Roberts scored off a pass from Luke Mills in the 12th minute. The duo combined again in the 40th minute to put the Jets up 2-0 headed into halftime.

The Tritons (1-1) capitalized on a Newman foul in the box to cut the lead in half in the 53rd minute. Garrett Bass took the penalty kick and buried the ball in the back of the net.

In the 78th minute, Nick Schreiber connected with Gabe Stanislawski for the game-tying goal.

Coach Dan King saw an opportunity to finish the game in regulation so he subbed in Cole Pardo for some fresh legs in the 87th minute. Leo Sowa found Pardo open and the freshman scored the game-winning goal with 32 seconds remaining in the game.

Jordan Hurt was in goal for the win and made one save for the Tritons.

UMSL will travel to the University of Indianapolis on Sunday, September 12th to start Great Lakes Valley Conference play at 2:30 p.m. EST.
