ST. LOUIS, MO. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team dropped their season-opener to Upper Iowa University, 3-0, on Friday afternoon. The UMSL offense was held off the score sheet by Alejo Prieto who made a couple quality saves.
UIU (1-0) notched the first goal of the game with less than a minute left in the first half. Stan Cargill finished a feed from Alan Dunlop to five the Peacocks the 1-0 lead headed to halftime.
UMSL (0-1) applied pressure in the second half, but the UIU defense would not break. In the 75th minute,
Mylz Barrington got the ball at the top of the box off a corner and pinged the ball off the top off the crossbar and over.
The Peacocks would answer with a goal by Tate Llofdahl less than a minute later. Italo Martins Soares would add a third goal with less than a minute remaining in the game.
The Tritons will hit the road next Friday to face Newman University in Wichita, Kan. The kick is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
