Volleyball Notches Two Wins Saturday

BIG RAPIDS, MICH. - No. 21 University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball rebounded with two wins on Saturday. The UMSL offense posted a hitting percentage higher than .200 in both matches, recording a .255 percentage against Saint Leo University and a .218 percentage against Davenport University. The Tritons won 3-1 against Saint Leo and 3-0 over Davenport.

UMSL (2-2) was wide awake in the opening set of the 9 a.m. EST match against Saint Leo (0-3). The Tritons made quick work of the Lions winning the set 25-13. 

Saint Leo answered with a 25-18 second set win. The Tritons adjusted quickly to take the third set 25-21.

It was all Tritons in the fourth set until Saint Leo put together a 6-0 run followed by a 5-1 run to tie the set at 24-24. The Lions ran out of steam with a service error and UMSL forced an attack error to earn the 26-24 win to take the match.

Charlotte Richards led the way with 22 kills and a .380 hitting percentage. Richards added 10 digs to earn her second double-double of the season. Kaileen Herman also recorded a double-double with 10 digs and 34 assists. Paige Yoder hit .375 with eight kills. Megan Woll finished with 19 digs.

UMSL trailed Davenport in the first set of the afternoon session against Davenport (2-2) 23-19 before the Tritons sparked a five-point run including three kills from Richards. One point swung back to DU to knot the set at 24-24, but Richards and Yoder finished off two kills to secure the 26-24 comeback set win. 

The late first set rally by the Tritons took the wind out of the Panthers' sails. UMSL would go on to take the second set 25-14 and the third set 25-18.

Charlotte Richards recorded 19 kills. Lexie Rang posted eight digs and eight kills with a .316 hitting percentage. Megan Herman pitched in 33 assists. Megan Woll led the way with 16 digs.

The Tritons finished the Ferris State Tournament with a 2-2 record. UMSL will travel to the Southern Indiana Tournament next weekend with their first match scheduled for Friday, September 10th at 10 a.m. The Tritons will face Wayne State University in their first match in Evansville, Ind.
