The Tritons came up just short at the University of Illinois Springfield Saturday afternoon, 68-64.
It's the first loss for the Tritons since Dec. 2.
The Tritons were up 32-22 at half, but the Stars kept the throttle down.
UIS took control down the stretch, going up 59-55 with 4:41 to go.
Yaakema Rose hit the timely shot from the wing and
Isaiah Fuller scored the put-back, tying it up at 64.
A costly turnover by the Tritons gave possession to the Stars.
Fouls down low sent the Prairie Stars (Chase Robinson and James Kelley) to the line, where they went 4-for-4 to cap the GLVC win.
The Tritons now are 10-3, 4-2 and the Stars sit 8-6, 3-3.
UMSL was led in scoring by
Marty Jackson's 16 points. Rose added 15 and Fuller had 10.
Jose Grubbs had 10 and
Steve Webb tossed in eight.
Marquis Collins had three and
Trever Moore had two.
Chris Hamil led the Stars with 35 points in 33 minutes.
The Tritons are back home Jan. 20 against Truman State.
