The UMSL women's basketball team (12-2, 8-1) and the Rockhurst Hawks now have met 30 times.
The Tritons own that series record, 19-11, and the 19th win came Thursday night on the road as UMSL defeated the host Hawks, 61-57.
The win gives head coach
Katie Vaughn 150 in UMSL red.
Seniors
Faye Meissner,
Kiara Stewart, and
Danielle Berry (3-pointer) commenced the scoring for the Tritons.
Throughout the tilt, the Hawks wouldn't go away, even though they only lead once.
No matter what the Tritons did or how much they increased the lead with the multiple 6- and 7-point advantages, there the Hawks were.
The Tritons lead by three to begin the fourth quarter, 43-40, but again, here came the Hawks.
After
Mallory Ronshausen hit a crucial 3-pointer from the wing, DalySullivan (led team with 16 points) hit the same to pull the Hawks to within four points, 51-47.
Alex LaPorta -- who is set to break the school record for career rebounds Saturday at William Jewell -- found Stewart on the high-low action.
LaPorta pulled down 12 boards tonight, tying her with Tammy Putnam (1988-92) for the most all-time in program history. LaPorta needs one more to break Putnam for 1,029.
As the teams swapped buckets,
Danielle Berry hit five straight from the line as the Tritons extended the lead, 55-51.
Sullivan hit another trey and the Tritons were only up by three, 60-57.
LaPorta added one from the charity stripe as the Tritons closed out another GLVC win.
