ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against No. 22 Maryville on Friday afternoon at the Maryville Soccer Field in Town and Country, Mo. The Tritons are now 4-7-3, 3-5-2 GLVC while the Saints are 8-4-2, 7-1-2 GLVC.
Maryville controlled possession in the first 45 minutes and had a 5-1 advantage in shots at the break. Neither side was able to record a shot on goal.
The Saints had the game's first scoring chance 3:21 into the second frame. Tim Smith took a shot that was deflected out by
Austin Reis for a corner.
Maryville had another scoring opportunity in the 64th minute as Reis denied Eyob Tadesse.
UMSL recorded its first shot on goal in the 86th minute as
Drew Schenk tried to break the deadlock but his chance was saved by Albert Escuin.
UMSL had one final chance to win the contest in the closing seconds as
Tommy Naumann tried to score but was turned away by Escuin.
The Tritons outshot the Saints 5-4 in the second half but Maryville had 9-6 advantage in shots for the game. Each side had two shots on goal. UMSL had six corner kicks in the contest to three for Maryville.
The Tritons return to the pitch next Friday (Oct. 21) as it hosts Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m. at Don Dallas Soccer Field.
