ST. LOUIS - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team defeated Southwest Baptist 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Don Dallas Field. The win snapped the Tritons four-game winless streak and improved their record to 4-5-2, 3-3-1 GLVC while the Bearcats drop to 0-9-1, 0-6 GLVC.
Gabe Stanislavski opened the scoring with his second goal of the season in the 16th minute of the first half with assists from
Leo Sowa and
Arman Kovac. The Tritons took six more shots in the period but were unable to add on. They held a 7-3 advantage in shots including 5-1 in shots on goal at the break.
UMSL extended its lead nine minutes into the second half on
Tommy Naumann's first goal of the season. The Tritons won a corner kick and the ball was served into the box.
JT Goldstein got a head on it and passed it to Kowac who found Naumann in front of the goal for the game-winner.
The Bearcats cut UMSL's lead in half in the 67th minute. SBU won a free kick at the edge of the penalty area and David Sanchez scored right off the free kick from 20 yards out into the upper 90.
The Tritons regained their two goal lead three minutes later as Naumann played a pass ahead to
Jack Meuse who beat Willy Lusansu for his third goal of the season.
UMSL outshot the Bearcats 8-2 in the final 45 minutes and finished the contest with a 15-5 advantage in shots including 9-3 in shots on goal. Naumann led the Tritons with four shots in the contest while Stanislawski added three. Meuse, Goldstein and
Quinton Garofalo had two shots each.
Austin Reis made two saves in goal.
UMSL returns to the pitch on Friday (Oct. 7) as it travels down to Rolla to take on Missouri S&T at 7:30 p.m.
