ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Southwest Baptist 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Don Dallas Field in St. Louis. The Tritons improve to 5-5-1, 3-3-1 GLVC while the Bearcats fall to 1-5-4, 0-3-3 GLVC.
UMSL dominated the first 45 minutes of the contest as it outshot SBU 8-2. The Tritons had their best two scoring chances early in the contest.
Candice Parziani hit the crossbar off a free kick in the fourth minute and then in the 17th minute
Cammie Robinson missed a penalty kick off the left post.
UMSL scored twice in the span of 2:40 midway through the second half to break the scoreless deadlock.
Jalyn Richardson scored the first goal in the 64th minute. She received a cross from
Karley Kinzinger, in the middle of the penalty area, spun around and lofted one over the keeper and under the bar for her team leading fourth goal of the season.
The Tritons scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 67th minute as Parziani converted on a penalty kick for her second goal of the season.
Southwest Baptist cut the UMSL lead in half with a goal with 9:05 remaining. The Bearcats were awarded a free kick near midfield and Ashlynn Edison, their goalkeeper, took it. Her shot banged off the cross bar, bounced around the box and found its way to Abby Youngblood who shot it into the upper right corner for her first goal of the season.
The Tritons finished the contest with a 19-6 advantage in shots including 9-3 in shots on goal. UMSL finished with seven corner kicks in the contest to one for the Bearcats. Parziani led the way with five shots while Richardson added three.
Paige Schwartz made two saves in goal.
The Tritons begin a three-game road trip this Friday as they head down to Rolla to take on Missouri S&T at 5 p.m.
