ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team edged Missouri Baptist 4-3 to pick up its first win of the season at the UMSL Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon. The Tritons improve to 1-1 on the season while the Spartans drop to 0-4.
UMSL won all three doubles contests to take the opening point of the match.
Pascal Maclean-Wood and
Raphael Kerndl defeated Lucas Kzam and Alberto Cieker 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Jose Mayorga and
Joshua Mackey followed with a 6-4 win over Dragan Omcikus and Youssef Mokhles 6-4 in the number one doubles match. The number two doubles tandem of
Tanin Ramnath and
Juan Vigil completed the sweep of the doubles matches with a 7-6 (9-7) win over Timofey Tokmakaov and Filip Petrovic.
The two sides split the six singles contest. The Tritons got wins from Vigil as he rallied past Omcikus to win 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. Mayorga followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Mokhles at number two singles and Mackey sealed the victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Petrovic in the fourth singles contest.
UMSL returns to the courts for the start of their spring season on Sunday, Feb. 5 when it travels to Hammond, Ind., to take on Purdue Northwest.
