SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – For the second straight contest the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team dominated the stat sheet but just like Friday night were unable to come away with a victory as it tied against Drury 1-1 on Sunday afternoon at Harrison Stadium. The Tritons are now 5-6-2, 3-4-2 GLVC while the Panthers are 5-1-6, 2-1-5 GLVC.
UMSL and Drury are tied for the seventh seed in the GLVC Tournament with 11 points each and have a three-point lead over Missouri S&T for the final playoff spot.
Both goals in the contest came in the first 15 minutes of the match. The Tritons got on the board first scoring in the sixth minute.
Candice Parziani slipped a pass from the right wing into the box to
Karley Kinzinger. Kinzinger then slid a pass across the box to a charging
Casey Clark who shot it into the upper right corner for her first goal of the season.
The Panthers scored the equalizer in the 14th minute as Tara Simon beat
Paige Schwartz to the lower right corner for her fourth goal of the season. Keeley Combs had the assist on Simon's goal.
UMSL controlled play for the remainder of the half outshooting Drury 10-4 but was unable to score the go-ahead goal despite putting five more shots on goal to none for the Panthers.
The Tritons continued their domination in the second half as they outshot Drury 10-4 including seven shots on goal.
Jalyn Richardson had a golden opportunity at the game-winner with 5:20 remaining as the dribbled down the right side into the box and sent a shot towards the left hand of the goal that Kaitlin Knetzke was able to get a piece of way to force it wide for a corner kick.
UMSL had one more chance at the game-winner in the final minute of play. The Tritons won a free kick from about 30 yards from the Panther goal. The ball was played to the top of the box to
Ayana Weissenfluh but her shot was tipped over the bar by Knetzke and out for a corner.
Drury had one final chance in the closing seconds but Elsa Gonzalez's shot from the right side of the penalty area was blocked away as the clock ran out.
UMSL outshot the Panthers 21-9 in the contest including 12-1 in shots on goal. The Tritons had two corner kicks to one for Drury. Richardson led UMSL with eight shots in the contest including four on goal while Clark and Weissenfluh had three shots apiece.
The Tritons conclude their three-game road trip next Friday as they travel to Maryville to take on the Saints at 3:30 p.m. at the Maryville Soccer Field.
