CHICAGO – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's swimming team had a successful second day at the University of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic on Saturday. The Tritons set a school record, had nine top 10 finishes and achieved a B-cut qualifying time for nationals.
Zara Konstapel won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.15 which was good for a national qualifying mark.
Olivia Gawronski was 10th in the event in a time of 1:08.14 while
Cheyanne Godleski and
Ashleigh Baros finished 14th and 17th with times of 1:08.77 and 1:09.73 respectively.
The 800 free relay quartet of
Stephanie Schoemans,
Isabella Gruidl,
Sarah Nelson and
Rebecca Bechtel set finished fourth in a school record time of 7:45.41. The foursome of
Madison Bottorff, Godleski, Baros and
Julia Gorska came in 10th at 8:06.95.
The 200 free relay squad of
Kate Nelson, Konstapel,
Kristen Stalder and
Ava Boehning were second in a time of 1:45.40 while the foursome of
Franziska Hauptmann, Godleski,
Callie Clinton and
Natalie Arthur finished 10th at 1:49.67. The quartet of
Lily Franzen, Gawronski,
Mackenzie Greenley and
Averi Meade was 13th in a time of 1:51.50 and the team of
Brooklyn Messenger,
Amanda Hei, Bechtel and Gorska took 17th with a time of 1:53.59.
Gruidl was the top finisher in the 400 IM with a time of 4:34.75 while
Lizzie Bitner was 11th at 4:49.09 and
Maria Serra took 12th in a time of 4:49.20.
UMSL had five swimmers finish in the top 20 in the 100 back. Schoemans was the highest finisher in ninth at 58.56 while Hauptmann was 10th with a time of 1:05.26. Greenley, K. Nelson and Franzen competed in the B-Final of the event. Greenley was 14th at 59.37, K. Nelson finished at 59.57 and Franzen was 18th in a time of 1:00.66.
Stalder was the top finisher in the 100 fly with a time of 58.52 she was followed by Clinton at 58.96 while S. Nelson finished at 59.37.
The Tritons are back in the pool on Sunday for the final day of the Phoenix Fall Classic.
