If the Maryville Saints women's basketball team were looking to add another win to their 2022 portfolio, they are going to have to wait until the weekend.
Head coach
Katie Vaughn and her Tritons hit the road Thursday, routing the host Saints, 65-49.
This makes 18-2 overall and 14-1 in the GLVC for Vaughn's crew.
UMSL used a strong third quarter to pull away, as the Tritons shot 62 percent from the field and 43 percent from the perimeter.
After a 33-30 ballgame at half, the defense allowed a mere six in the third.
"Our defense has been something e have relied upon night in and night out," said Vaughn. Tonight was no different. We made some minor defesive tweaks at halftime and the team did a great job of implementing in the second half. Offensively, once again, we had balanced scoring."
Once again,
Faye Meissner was a force to be reckoned with, leading the team with 16 points.
Kiara Stewart was strong as well, tossing in her 14.
Alex LaPorta added 10 and
Mallory Ronshausen had 8.
Jalysa Stokes tallied 7 and
Shania Liburd had four.
Creating an offense off the defense also helped, as the Tritons had 18 points off turnovers and 17 off second-chance opportunities.
Maryville turned it over 18 times, and the Tritons came up with nine steals.
