TOPEKA, KAN. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis Softball team dropped a doubleheader to Emporia State University on Monday, Feb. 21. ESU won game one 4-0 and game two 5-1.
UMSL (1-5) was held to one hit in game one by Josie Harrison. Harrison threw a complete game and recorded seven strikeouts.
Mimi Bradley was credited with the loss in game one, throwing five innings and allowing three earned runs on two hits and nine walks.
The Hornets (8-6) scratched a run across in the first inning on a ground out. Karly Johnson homered in the fourth inning to finish the scoring for the Hornets.
The Tritons scored first in game two when starting pitcher,
Jenna Towle hit a sacrifice fly to score
McKenzie Lamos in the top of the third inning.Â
Emporia State answered with four runs in the bottom half of the third and tacked on a fifth run in the fifth inning.Â
The Triton offense recorded six hits in the second game incuding three hits from
Megan Brown and two hits from Lamos.
Sydney Righi scattered the hits enough for ESU to allow one run through six innings and earn the win.
Towle was credited with the loss, pitching six innings and allowing one earned run on three hits and three strikeouts. The Tritons had five errors in the second game.
The Tritons will travel back to Topeka, Kan. to play in the Washburn Invitational Friday through Sunday. Their first game will be a rematch with Emporia State on Friday, Feb. 25 at 2:30 p.m.
