EVANSVILLE, IND. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team lost at the University of Southern Indiana, 6-1, on Friday, Feb. 25 in the Evansville Tennis Center. UMSL won the first doubles match, but lost the second and third to drop the doubles point. USI won five-of-six singles matches.
The top duo of
Marcos Navas and
Karl Heinrichs gave the Tritons (0-2) a doubles victory with a score of 7-5. Marvin Kromer and Lucas Sakamaki won No. 2 doubles 6-0 for the Screaming Eagles (5-1). USI clinched the doubles point when Yahor Bahdanovich and Quinten Gillespie topped
AJ Bower and
Juan Vigil, 6-4.
Marcos Navas won the top singles match against Parker Collignon by a score of 6-2 in set one and 6-3 in set two.
Jose Mayorga fell in the first set of No. 2 singles, 6-2, against Yahor Bahdanovich. Mayorga bounced back with a 6-3 win in set two to force a third set. Bahdanovich was the first to reach 10 points to win the match 10-6.
Raphael Kerndl won the second set of No. 5 singles, 7-6, after falling in set one, 6-4, to Marvin Kromer. Kromer would take the last set 10-4 to win the match.
Spencer Blandford won No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1, over
Juan Vigil. Lucas Sakamaki topped
Karl Heinrichs, 7-5, 6-3, in No. 4 singles. Quinten Gillespie won No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0, against
AJ Bower.
The Tritons travel to Harding University on Sunday, Feb. 27 for a match at 1 p.m.
