SEARCY, ARK. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's tennis teams fell to Harding University at the Elliot Tennis Complex on Sunday, Feb. 27. The UMSL men lost 6-1, while the women fell 5-2 to Harding.
Women
Tara Erler and
Anna Domingo earned the lone doubles win for the Tritons (1-3) in the No. 3 match. The duo won 6-4, but the Bison (3-3) took the doubles point by winning 6-4 in No. 1 doubles and 6-3 in No. 2 doubles.
Odette Beagrie faced off against Grace Dodd in the top singles match. Dodd claimed the first set 6-4. Beagrie took set two 6-3. A thrilling tie breaker ended in a 13-11 win for Beagrie to take the match.
Maja Lietzau won the first set in No. 4 singles 6-3, but Jing Yang won the second set 6-3 to send the match to a third set. Lietzau would win the third set 10-2 giving UMSL a second point.
Harding the final four singles matches to win 5-2.
Next, the Tritons will travel to the University of Indianapolis on Sunday, Mar. 6.
Men
Harding (7-1) swept the doubles matches against UMSL (0-3) to take the first point.
Raphael Kerndl lost the first set of No. 5 singles to Bryce Walker, 6-1. Kerndl rebounded with a 6-3 win in the second set. He would carry that momentum into the third set to win 10-4.
Jose Mayorga also lost the first set of No. 3 singles to Morgan Salvan, 6-1. Mayorga would take set two 6-3, but Salvan went on to win the third set 10-4.
Harding won the final four singles matches to win 6-1.
Next, the Tritons will host Missouri Baptist University on Friday, Mar. 4 at 2 p.m.
