ST. LOUIS, MO. - No. 4 seed University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball could not miss in the first round of Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. UMSL shot 53% from beyond the arc in a 96-63 win over No. 13 seed Drury University. The Tritons shot 52% from the field.
UMSL (21-6) went on an 18-2 run to start the game. The hot-handed Tritons continued to score at will. UMSL scored 50 points in the first half, taking a 50-18 lead into halftime.
The Triton lead would grow to as big as 45 points in the second half. Drury (10-16) battled back to fall 96-63.
UMSL had 23 assists in the game.
Marty Jackson,
Steve Webb, and
Isaiah Fuller each had four assists.
The Tritons drained 17 threes with
Kellen King and
Shane Wissink both hitting three a piece.
Marty Jackson led the Tritons in scoring with 16 points and added nine rebounds.
Isaiah Fuller came off the bench to score 15 points.
Kellen King scored 13 points in 16 minutes of action with five rebounds.
Trever Moore netted 12 points.
The Tritons will face the No. 5 seed University of Southern Indiana (18-7) in the GLVC Championship Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday at 6 p.m. The game will take place in Edwardsville, Ill. at First Community Arena.
USI defeated the University of Illinois Springfield in the first round of the GLVC Tournament, 81-52.
UMSL topped USI last Thursday with a 76-68 win at home.
